With the start of Living World scenarios, we have created the @HeraldofEretsu Twitter account.  This dedicated feed will give real time updates on the progress of battles and events in the world of Eretsu.

During the two week window when Living World scenarios are available, @HeraldofEretsu will dispatches from the battlefield and give players an idea of how the decisions they have made during their games fit into the bigger picture of the battles in which they are fighting.

Driven off of data collected from the games, @HeraldofEretsu will not only report on current battles, but also be the first to report on troop movement announcements from the leaders of Eretsu. In addition, the Herald will bring glory to player armies that have performed exceptionally on the field battle by announcing their acts of valor to the world.

The Living World Feature is LIVE!

The Living World Feature of Golem Arcana is now live and we have begun the first Living World Campaign – Shadow of the Khan!

The digitally enhanced nature of Golem Arcana allows us to do what no other tabletop game can do – use gameplay results from actual games to inform the story and the world of the game. This is at the heart of our Living World scenarios where your choice of faction, conversations with characters, acceptance and completion of quests, battlefield deals of expediency, and your moral choices will affect the fate the world of Eretsu itself.

Each Living World Campaign is created from a 3 scenario story arc played over the course of 2 months. The Battle of Two Rock, our first Story Scenario is available now through November 12 and every game will determine the outcome of the battle. All you have to do is pledge your 1000 point army to the cause of the mighty Gudanna Dominion or the ancient Durani Empire and claim victory for your faction and glory for yourself.

The next two Story Scenarios will include The Caves of Mahtis running November 19 – December 3 and The Lords of the Line running December 10 – December 24. We hope you’ll play them all!

Play The Battle of Two Rock at home or your local game store for the next 2 weeks only and forge the fate of Eretsu! And, after you play, don’t forget to share your tales from the front on our Forums!


The Terrors of the Steppes are Here to Conquer

Gudanna golems are known for taking advantage of their ability to charge at their opponent to deliver a devastating attck at close range and the Terrors of the Steppes –  the Blood Channeler, the Grappling Death and the Demon Lash – do just that! Terrors of the Steppe Gudanna Expansion Set Now Available

Terror of the Stepps introduces three new powerful golems to bolster the ranks of the Gudanna. The Blood Channeler, Grappling Death, and Demon Lash are capable of tearing apart an  enemy force. In true Gudanna fashion, these golems are all about charging into close range and delivering devesting attacks. This set also includes four new Relics for making your army even more powerful.

Happy Anniversary, Golem Arcana Kickstarters!

Today is the One-Year Anniversary of funding the Golem Arcana Kickstarter and we thank you all so much! To celebrate, we’ve released 15 new Knights and two new Scenarios – the Battle of Monty’s Haul and an Epic Scenario that were played at GenCon! You’ll also find performance improvements and bug fixes as well.


How to Optimize your Gudanna Wave One Army so Your Devil Djinn Can Do 261 Points of Damage in One Turn!

First, let me say that this is not a recommended strategy. However, this is the kind of exercise that we often do when we’re playtesting the game just to see what happens. It helps us figure out where things might be “broken” and how we might be able to fix them. I thought it might be fun to walk you through this exercise and maybe it will give you some ideas of how to maximize your Army. Here goes!

When you create your army, you’ll want to take the Avenger Ancient One, and give the Bone Gate Totem relic to the Devil Djinn.

Next, you’re going to need 38 mana, so send your Sand Lion and Dune Viper out to start harvesting. With any luck, your opponent will kill one or both of them giving you a death mana bonus. After you have the mana, spend 2AP to walk your Devil Djinn into the square with their biggest, meanest golem.

Cast the Avenger’s Miracle, “Vengeance”, giving all your units 10 accuracy and +10 damage and then cast the curse “Eye for an Eye” in the region with your Devil Djinn making it so both friend and foe take additional damage in this region.

Have the Devil Djinn deploy the Bone Gate Totem where he is.  The Bone Gate Totem has two melee attacks – one that normally does 35 damage but will now do 55 damage and one that normally does 31 damage but does 51 damage this turn.

Now use your remaining 4AP to attack with the Devil Djinn:  use 1AP to attack with Liquid Fire (It should do 45 damage this turn) and then follow up with Crush (which should do 55 damage this turn).

This will leave you with two remaining AP that  you can use to attack with Crush again.  Since it’s in cooldown, it will cost 2AP instead of 1AP but it’s worth it because in this single turn, it can still do another 55 damage.

When you add up all your attacks during this turn, if fortune favored your dice rolls,  you will have done 261 points of damage! If, by some small miracle, whatever you were attacking is still living at the end of the turn, they will also take another 15 damage points over the next 3 turn from the effects of Liquid Fire.

Of course, if you choose to employ this strategy against another player, you might have to say goodbye to your friend, because after a whooping like that, they may not want to play with you again. :)

Clearly, this is not a very well rounded army so I’m sure you guys already have lots of ideas how to take this build down, and I’d love to hear about them! Head on over to the Golem Arcana Forums and, when I get back from Essen, I’ll share my favorite counter strategies!

We are excited to announce that the official Golem Arcana Forum are open and we anticipate a terrific community will grow and thrive there. The forums are a great place to learn about and share strategies, ask questions about the intricacies of rules, brag about wins, mourn losses, and connect with the HBS Team.

Living World Fiction

     In August at GenCon our Kickstarter backers played the first scenarios that influenced our Living World. The first was “As the Embers Die” in which both the Durani and Gudanna players received secret information (you can read more about the scenarios here). Ryan Schapals has crafted a story based on the outcomes of those 16 games played of “As the Embers Die” from the perspective of Gudanna shepherd caught in the battle. Click here to find out if Rudatha was able to lay hands on the escaping Prince Zuva.
     The outcomes of that scenario directly influenced the Epic Game that our backers played the following night. Nathan Weisman has written a story that deals with the fallout of that battle, click here to get some insight into the increasingly strained relationship between Rudatha and Nandanna as experienced by two estranged brothers.
     This was just the beginning of what we have planned for the Living World, something akin to an Alpha Test. We are looking forward to sharing more about our future plans for this Fall!
